NATO - 10 JUNE 1988

FOREIGE SECRETARY:

Io, we were not discussing that.

That is part of the

discussions taking place, really, between Defence Ministries in the

Alliance as a whole, so we did not touch on that.

We discussed the whole range of topics that are coming up for

Consideration between us in the next few months, the Hanover Summit of the European Community, the forthcoming visit by the Prime Minister to Spain and the agenda of today's meeting, but we did not

discuss that particular point at all.

JOHN DICKIE:

Secretary of State, when you return to Lunden, would you be

looking forward to better relations with Iran as a result of the

talks that have been taking place and do you see the prospect of

better relations affecting the position of the British hostages?

FOREIGN SECRETARY:

are seeking to achieve here.

The talks that have been taking place this week have been

exclusively concerned to the question of mutual compensation for

damage to the missions and there are no wider implications of that

Obviously, we continue from everywhere we can to seek

information about the whereabouts and circumstances of the hostages,

but always within the framework of our "no-deals policy on

at all.
