Requirements for admitting human remains into Hong Kong
Under Section 19 of the Quarantine & Prevention of Diseases Ordinance, Cap.141, a permit is required for the importation of human remains (non cremated) into Hong Kong.
The responsible local party or funeral home may apply directly to the Director of Medical and Health Services, Hong Kong for the attention of the Chief Port Health Officer together with two copies of either the original death certificate or photocopies of the death certificate duly endorsed by the local government, stating the name, age, sex and cause of death. The name of the ship or aircraft carrying the remains, and the expected date of arrival should also be stated in the application.
A permit is not required for the importation of human remains in the form of ash or bone.
