The reactor and turbine buildings will be separate.
The seawater intake and pump house will be at the "non reactor" ends of the turbines with the discharge
leaving the plant area near the "reactor" end of unit 1
turbine.
3.2. State of the Works
and turbines.
The works executed comprised the site preparation,
excavation and low level foundations for the reactors
Most of the concrete poured was in the form of large slabs and blocks which constituted the sub bases for the major equipment.
The seawater pumphouse site was excavated and formwork for the pump intakes was under preparation (pumps are to be concrete volute type). The foundations in the
turbine area were generally still below turbine
basement level but the foundation block for the unit 1
condensate pumps (vertical canister type) was
substantially complete. It was difficult to determine
exactly where the turbine block columns would be since
the general level of the works was still well below the
point at which reinforcing starter bars or formwork
will be positioned. The bottoms of the cooling water
outlet culverts were complete and much of the
reinforcing for the vertical sides was in position. Formwork for the culverts was ready to be positioned.
The contractor had constructed a temporary, high level access roadway and platform adjacent to the site of the
turbine blocks. This was a significant item of
temporary works the full reason for which was not
clear. It was assumed that the contractor would use
this route to bring in all the block materials,
including concrete.
