In a long editorial, Wen Wei Po described the establishment of the committee as an open policy adopted by the Chinese nuclear authorities, which had attached importance to the views of HK people.

The paper said we should welcome such a move. It was hoped that the committee would play an important role in the communication between HK people and the Chinese nuclear authorities and in ensuring the safety of the N-plant.

However, the HK Times argued that the committee was only consultative in nature and did not have the power to supervise the N-plant.

The paper claimed that this committee was aimed at fooling HK people. What HK people should seek was participation in the monitoring of the N-plant.
