CLAUSE 9: SHORT TITLE, COMMENCEMENT AND EXTENT
Subsection (1) of Clause 9 authorises the short title of the Act.
Subsection (2) provides for the Act to be brought into force on a date appointed by the Secretary of State in a commencement order made by statutory instrument. It is our intention that such a date will be the date on which the Convention enters into force for the
United Kingdom. That will be the date on which we ratify the
Convention [or the date that the Convention receives sufficient
ratifications to come into force generally, whichever is the later] (Part in square brackets to be omitted if France or USA ratifies before Committee stage.)
Subsection (3) extends the Act to Northern Ireland.
Subsection (4) provides for the Act to be extended, by Order in
Council, to the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or any colony.
