5. It may be that some further updating or drafting amend- ments will be necessary when we have the date(s) of the Committee stage; but the Minister may welcome an opportunity
to read the briefing now. It has been prepared after widespread
consultation in Whitehall.
6. I suggest that the officials' support should be the same as for the Second Reading, namely Mr Grainger (Legal Adviser), Mr Carpenter (Lord Chancellor's Department), Miss White (Protocol Department), Mr Birrell, Private Office and myself. If the Committee stage is spread over more than one session, it may be
desirable to have a Home Office official with us when the
Committee reaches clause 9, to help with further questions on
the Channel Islands and Isle of Man. I understand that they are
a topic frequently raised by Mr Foulkes.
