When Mr. Pigott called on Mr. Wang Weiyana on 10
February,
he
informed the Chinese side that the United
Kingdom intends to ratify the Convention
Establishing
the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency in от
shortly after March 1988 and upon ratification to apply
Convention to Hona Kona in accordance with Article
the
66
of
the Convention. The British side also deems i t
appropriate
to continue to apply the Convention to the
Hone kona SAR after 1997 and therefore hopes
to
have
the response of
the Chinese side before the United
Kingdom's ratification of the convention.
Now I am instructed to respond as follows:
1.
The Chinese side has no objection
to
the
application
of the Convention to Hong Kong before
1997
by the UK
upon
its ratification of the Convention.
2.
After 1997 the Convention may continue to
be
applied
to
the Hong Kong SAR if the PRC has become 8
Party
to the
Convention.
This question could
be
discussed in the JLG in due course.
