Dear Smith,
HONG KONG AGREEMENT: 10TH MEETING OF THE JOINT LIAISON GROUP
257
1. Thank you for your letter of 24 October. You are correct to assume that we do not have any suitable material in Spanish!
2. I fear that I do see some problems with your suggestion that information be sent directly to the Spanish Consulate in Hong Kong. To the best of my knowledge the Hong Kong Government do not volunteer post-JLG briefings to all Consulates in Hong Kong (which would be a major task with over 70 countries represented there), but rather respond to requests for briefing. Perhaps you could ask your MFA contacts to prompt the Consulate to request briefing from the Political Adviser's Office in Hong Kong, who I know would be happy to oblige.
3.
We shall in any case continue to copy our regular post-JLG briefing telegrams to Madrid.
Yours ever,
Chris Wand

Thank you for your letter of 13 October about our briefing exercise after JLG X. This is just to confirm that I see no problems with carrying out briefing in future as proposed by the Canadians and described in your paragraph three.
