26. United Kingdom policy towards Vietnam; aid to Vietnam
We maintain normal diplomatic relations with Vietnam. However,
the development of our relations is inhibited by Vietnam's continued
illegal occupation of Cambodia and its poor human rights record.
In common with our EC partners and almost all other Western countries, we are not prepared to give bilateral aid to Vietnam so long as its occupation of Cambodia remains.
We do not exclude the possibility of supporting modest assistance to help returning boat people to reintegrate into their
community.
