X. UK/HONG KONG TRADE
UK exports to Hong Kong in 1986 represented about 1.3% of total UK exports and about 3,4% of Hong Kong's total imports. Hong Kong is an attractive market for British exporters, and they are given every support and encouragement by the Government.
The Hong Kong Government welcomes British exports. But in accordance with their open market practice they take the view that Britain must compete on equal terms with other exporting countries. We fully understand that position. British exporters therefore enjoy no special preferences and their success depends entirely on their own merit.
