British Contact with Chinese over Drafting Basic Law
We are in close and frequent contact with the Chinese
Government over many issues connected with the implementation of the Joint Declaration; naturally China's drafting of the Basic Law has
figured in these advantages. Official Chinese spokesmen have said
that they will welcome comments on the draft Basic Law when it is published, including any comments which the British Government may
wish to make.
