As I mentioned on the telephone the other day, I intend to spend

a few days in Hong Kong on my way back to post after MTL.

Provisionally,

I plan to arrive in Hong Kong on 13 February and fly to Peking on 17 February. I would be delighted to take up your offer of staying chez Bunten.

You may find it useful if I gave you an idea of the elements I should like in a programme in advance:

(a) Hong Kong Government

(i) (ii)

GDB ESB/CAD

(iii) PA's Office

(b) Cathay Pacific

(c) Dragonair

(d) UKRep JLG

(e) Chinese JLG Office (social meeting?)

(f) Locallybased China and Taiwan watchers

3.

If possible, I should also like to call on the branch of the Hong Kong police that deals with hijacks. As you may be aware, my responsibilities here include that of Post Aviation Security Officer (PASO). This would mean involvement in situations where aircraft were hijacked in or to the PRC It would be useful to discuss with the Hong Kong police how they would see the Embassy's role in such circumstances, and whether there is anything they would like me to be doing in preparation.

4. I shall contact you when I am back in the UK to confirm dates etc. I am aware the list of calls above is rather long and might involve prolonging a stay in Hong Kong to 18 or 19 February (oh well, CAAC's not that bad!). We can discuss this in due course.

Time to PRC to Hyky, Ok and King Kany
