1. There continues to be steady progress in implementing the Joint Declaration through the Joint Liaison Group and Land Commission. The most recent JLG meeting (the ninth) was held in Hong Kong from 8 to 10 March. JLG X will take place in London from 20 to 23 September (the Chinese side having finally agreed that the Joint Declaration provisions on rotation of meetings should be upheld). There will also be a meeting between Mr McLaren and Ambassador Ke Zaishuo in Hong Kong on 1 July (see paragraph 7 below).
