Background

Kingston issued 3246 entry clearances in 1987. There

were 706 refusals of which 231 appealed.

2.

There is no queue system and virtually all settlement

applicants are seen and interviewed on the day of application.

Plans are in hand to re-design the Immigration

Section to provide better facilities.

3.

4.

The slight increase in refusals at Kingston and UK

ports of entry may reflect growing dissatisfaction among

younger Jamaicans (18-30 age group) with employment prospects in Jamaica. USA, Canada and the UK, in that

order, seem to be the countries they wish to go to.

Unfortunately many do not qualify for entry to the UK

under the Immigration Rules. There has also been an increase in bogus/forged documentation ie letters of support/employment and bank statements.
