c) Lord Glenarthur's Visit
10.
There was a short discussion of Lord Glenarthur's visit in June. The Governor agreed that arrival on Saturday, 18 June and departure during the afternoon on Wednesday, 22 June would meet Hong Kong's requirements. Lord Glenarthur was broadly content with the ideas in Hong Kong Telno 1104. If anything was to be dropped, the visit to an educational institution was the most suitable casualty. It was agreed that half an hour should be allowed for a press conference immediately before departure, with time for preparation beforehand.
11.
Lord Glenarthur hoped that Lady Glenarthur would be able to accompany him, and would be consulting her so that a separate programme could be arranged. Lord Glenarthur also asked that time should be set aside perhaps on Sunday, 19 June, for him to meet "Conservatives Abroad". He will be writing to tell them that he would be happy to see them.
d) Vietnamese Refugees
12.
In the context of Lord Glenarthur's press conference, Sir D Wilson warned that the main subject of press and public interest during his visit was likely to be Vietnamese refugees. Lord Glenarthur explained that we were in contact with the Home Office on this subject. Sir D Wilson anticipated a rough ride from the press if Lord Glenarthur had nothing new to offer.
