VISIT OF PORTUGUESE PRIME MINISTER 10-12 MARCH: BRIEFS

The Portuguese Prime Minister, Professor Cavaco Silva, will pay a working visit to London from 10-12 March.

He will be accompanied by his Foreign Minister, Professor Pinheiro; and the Political Director of the MFA, Ambassador Gregoria de Faria.

Professor Cavaco Silva will have talks with the Prime Minister at 1200 on 11 March. Although the agenda has not been finally agreed, it is likely to cover Anglo-Portuguese relations (including agricultural compensation, Lynx helicopters, and Portuguese workers in Gibraltar), EC issues, East-West relations and Southern Africa.

The Secretary of State will have talks with the Portuguese Foreign Minister at 1500 on 11 March. There will be some overlap with the subjects covered in the Prime Ministerial talks, but the agenda will mainly concentrate on EC, NATO, INF Treaty, relations with the US, Middle East, East Timor and Macao.
