The idea. won a wide-range support from experts and scholars from the mainland and Taiwan at a seminar on trademark, patent and trade legislations here yesterday.

Wang Shoumao, vice chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), described it as a positive step in promotion of the business activities between the two sides.

According to Kein Ting, chairman of the Hong Kong- Taiwan Trade Association, the committee is expected to begin operation in three months.

Ting said that the rising trend of the economic disputes, mainly involving the implementation of investment con- tracts and payment of export goods, has made all the business people involved eager to have an organization to arbitrate such disputes.

But due to the difficulty to obtain acknowledgement of the law departments of mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong at the present stage, to establish a mediation body is believed to be most suitable.

He added that although the new committee would not have legal effect, it could make public the results of certain cases to press for a better and timely resolution.

Representatives from the Hong Kong office of CCPIT and specialists from Taiwan will be in the committee.

[Report by reporter Zhong Weixiang (6988 1792 4382): "Macao Develops Trade With the Soviet Union"- ZHONGGUO XINWEN SHE Headline]

[Text] Macao, 27 Oct (ZHONGGUO XINWEN SHE)— During a special interview with our reporter, Macao's economic secretary revealed that preparations are being made to establish a trading company dealing with the Soviet Union. The company is responsible for developing trade with the Soviet Union. Although it is a private company, Nam Kwong Company, a commercial organ of China's Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade stationed in Macao has invested capital in the company.

Macao has not established direct trade relations with the Soviet Union. A very small amount of trade between them is carried out through Switzerland, Finland, Aus- Iria, Japan and other countries. In August, Macao sent an industrial, commercial and economic delegation to visit the Soviet Union. Both sides signed a memorandum on trade development.

The economic secretary added: The Soviet Union will become a new trading partner for Macao. Goods produced by Macao are attractive to the Soviet Union. Next month, the Soviet Union will send a commercial delegation to visit Macao. Next January Macao will participate in an inter- national consumer goods exhibition in Moscow.
