SECRETARY FOR HEALTH AND WELFARE :

Sir,

A number of measures have been taken to assist

fish farmers to continue to operate in Tolo Harbour. A red tide

reporting network has been established to give early warning to

the fish farmers and the Agriculture and Fisheries Department

# provides technical assistance, including advice on the

introduction of more efficient aeration devices and improved

husbandry practices. In addition, the implementation from 24

June 1988 of the Tolo Harbour Action Plan, which includes the

control of livestock waste in the area surrounding Tolo Harbour

as well as various sewerage and sludge control schemes are

expected to bring about improvements in water quality during the

next few years.
