13. MR. JACKIE CHAN asked:

Question Will Government inform this Council of the number of Directorate officers currently employed on contract terms; and whether under existing practice, such officers are allowed to join the private sector without having obtained prior approval from the Government upon expiry of their contracts, and if so, what measures the Government will take to ensure that there will not be a shortage of senior officers if those mentioned above leave the Government upon expiry

of their contracts?

Sir,

As at 1 January 1988, 299 directorate officers. were employed on agreement (contract) terms out of a total of 1,024 directorate officers. Of those employed on agreement terms, 77 were retired officers re employed on agreement terms. As these 77 officers were previously employed on pensionable terms, they are governed by the rules on post-retirement applicable to pensionable officers. The rules require them to seek permission to take up outside employment within two years of finally

that is, leaving government service

service.e. within the two-year period after expiry of their final agreement.
