compensation for injuries arising from work done on his behalf
by the employees of a subcontractor.

When an employer, whether or not he is a
becomes insolvent, his employees may apply for
ex gratia payments from the Protection of Wages on Insolvency
Fund. However, where the wages owed total less than $5,000,it
is not possible under the Bankruptcy Ordinance to institute
proceedings for insolvency and hence to make payments from the
Protection of Nages on Insolvency Fund. An amendment to the
Fund Ordinance will be put
be put to this Council shortly to enable
ex gratia payments to be made in cases where total claims are
below $5,000. I am sure that this amendment, if passed, will
benefit employees of small employers, including subcontractors.
