The Delegation will be visiting Britain, and during their stay will be the guests of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. A programme is being arranged for them by the Central Office of Information.
The District Board is one of 19, which together constitute the largest advisory body in Hong Kong, aiming to produce a more cohesive and
integrated administration for Hong Kong with involvement of the people at all levels. Their main responsibilities are
• the well-being of district residents and workers;
• the provision and use of public services and facilities;
the adequacy and priorities of government programmes;
the use of public funds for local public works and community activities.
The Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi District is in the New Territories and has a population of 414,000, about 8% of Hong Kong's total population.
During the visit to Britain, the Delegation would like to learn more about housing, local government, urban regeneration and social aspects in Britain. A visit to an area outside London has been requested.
Members of the Delegation represent a wide range of professions and committees, and have a broad spectrum of interests including crime fighting, environment, community affairs, youth, sport and recreation, hospitals and transport.
With the exception of Mr Cheng, all the delegates speak English.
They will be accompanied in London by two representatives of the Central Office of Information.
