On 20 January there was a debate in the House of Commons on the Annual Report on Hong Kong for 1987. Copy of the Hansard record of the debate is attached. Attention in the debate was focussed on the question of direct elections: there was general agreement that these should be introduced, but views on timing were sharply divided.
