The import, export and wholesale distribution activities of

the John D. Hutchison group have recorded favourable

increases in profits which were further enhanced by the

profit generated from the recently acquired Gaastra Sails

group.

All divisions of the Hutchison-Boag Engineering group were

profitable and ahead of budget with the exception of the

manufacturing division. The operations of Weatherite

Industries, the recently acquired manufacturer of air-

conditioners and fans, are still in the process of being

re-organized.

Both Hutchison China Trade and Davenham Investments are

making steady progress and the Group's coal trading joint

venture continues to make a satisfactory contribution to

Group profits.

The Sheraton-Hong Kong Hotel and Towers and the Hongkong

Hilton Hotel (owned through Cavendish International

Holdings) have had a successful first half with increased

profits over the same period last year. Occupancy and room

rates for both hotels continue to be maintained at very

satisfactory levels.
