Amendments to Letters Patent and Royal Instructions

44

We spoke and agreed to comment on the FCO

printed drafts as set out below.

2.

3.

Letters Patent : there is no comment on the draft except that in clause 3(b) the word "following" should appear as "following-"

Additional Instructions: there are a few comments on this draft, as follows

Clause 1(4) the words "as the terms of" should

Clause 3

Clause 4

read "with".

The wording of this paragraph differs from our version which was concerned to speak only of the appointment as opposed to the separate matter of nomenclature. The FCO wording might be thought to affect both matters by using the phrase "in accordance with the principal Instructions". This reservation is offered on the ground that the only relevance of having a saving provision at all is to make it quite clear to existing members that whatever their instruments of appointment may now say as to the title of their office they will continue in office under the new title without need of fresh instruments.

: the word "amended" should read "amended-"

: the words "the following- from a meeting"

etc. should read "the following

"from a meeting

This is a matter of lay-out.

Clause 6: ....
