DRUG TRAFFICKING OFFENCES ACT

1.

(12)

Thank you for your letter of 17 June. I shall aim to call on Jonathan Potts at the Home Office while I am on leave this month and will certainly keep Richard Street informed.

2.

Meanwhile I enclose a copy of the preliminary draft of the proposed local legislation which has been prepared by the Attorney General and is closely modelled on the UK Act. I have my doubts as to whether we shall make much progress in getting this onto the statute book here before the next local elections. We have yet to convince the Chief Minister that it is essential at this stage. I hope that my discussions with the Hane Office will be helpful in this respect as well as clarifying some of the administrative implications of going down the same road as the UK. I would be very grateful for any information that Richard Street may be able to send ԱՏ about the administration of similar legislation in

dependent Territories.
