THE INTERPRETATION AND GENERAL CLAUSES (AMENDMENT) ORDINANCE 1987

(No. 18 of 1987)

This Ordinance amends the Interpretation and General Clauses Ordinance to provide for the interpre- tation of legislation published in both English and Chinese. Provision permitting bilingual laws has already been made by the Hong Kong Additional Instructions 1986. The Ordinance will come into force on a future date.

2. The principal amendments are contained in section 4 which adds new sections 10A to 10E to deal with principles of construction, common law expressions, names of statutory bodies and the declaration of equivalent expressions.

3. Before the Acting Governor assented to the Bill in the name and on behalf of Her Majesty, the Attorney General advised that he could properly do so.
