Answer needs redrafting and should reflect the specific Israeli case mentioned and the Israelis' response (for instance supplementary 2 (i)). Extra
supplementaries required in the light of recent Irish passports case; in particular UK/Irish immigration procedures - the Common Travel Area; question of prosecution and waiving diplomatic immunity for Mr McDonald. A short supplementary also required on the freedom of Irish citizens to vote in UK elections.

PQ No 5 (Peter Bruinvels) Second paragraph of answer amended as follows: "we agreed with the report in 1984 of the Foreign Affairs Committee of this House that it would not offer any solution to an amendment etc.". Revision should be checked with
FAC report. Supplementary 2 (iii) "to be sent home in disgrace can be severe punishment" was considered unnecessary. On supplementary 7 expand the point about the willingness of the Mexican Government to set aside diplomatic immunity. Extra supplementaries required on recent GALLUP poll on diplomatic immunity; the Hickman case; Chinese shoplifting; the Omani waiter and provide background on recent Mail on Sunday article relating to diplomatic immunity.

Department should be prepared to update material on the subject of frigates.
