Thank you for your letter of 19 March about the Shiu-Kin Tang bequest.
I am sorry that it has taken us so long to let you have a response to the suggestions contained in your letter of 19 September concerning the administration of the bequest. This long silence does not, however, denote inactivity on our part! We have in the meantime been considering the various options for the use of these funds. Amongst these is a recent proposal by our Ministers that the HK/UK Joint Funding Scheme should be expanded with the increased resources required on the UK side coming from the Tang bequest. Although no decisions have yet been taken on this it seems at present quite likely that we will decide to make use of the bequest on these lines. I shall however be in touch again as soon as a definite decision has been made. We, like you, are keen to see this money used before the start of the next academic year.
