INTRODUCING THE REVISED CONDITIONS TO THE PHILIPPINES GOVERNMENT, PARTICULAR THE PROPOSITION THAT A FDH SHOULD LEAVE WITHIN TWO
WEEKS AFTER THE TERMINATION OF A CONTRACT. WE ASSUME THAT THE PHILI-
PPINES GOVERNMENT WILL NOT REACT TOO BADLY AS WE ARE NO LONGER
PROPOSING TO IMPOSE A CEILING ON THE NUMBER OF FDHS WHO MAY COME
TO WORK IN HK (AND THE HIGHER MINIMUM WAGE WILL INCREASE THE
AMOUNT REMITTED HOME).
6. WE REGRET THAT THE TIGHTENED CONDITIONS OF STAY AND BAN ON
CHANGING JOB MAY ADD TO THE WORKLOAD OF THE BRITISH EMBASSY IN MANILA, AT LEAST IN THE EARLY STAGES OF IMPLEMENTATION. WE HOPE THAT THIS COULD NOT BE TOO BURDENSOME. D OF IMMIGRATION WILL CONTACT
BE MANILA REGARDING DETAILED ARRANGEMENTS.
7. WE ARE AIMING TO BRIEF THE OMELCO SECURITY PANEL IN APRIL. WE
WILL SEND THE BACKGROUND TO MANILA BY BAG FOR THE PURPOSE OF
BRIEFING THE PHILIPPINES GOVERNMENT AFTER EXCO HAS ADVISED ON
24 MARCH.
