Ben Aly,

Thank you for your letter about Mr S McCallum of Flat 6, Northside, London SW4.

of 16 March to Tim Eggar 108 Clapham Common,

We have consulted the Hong Kong Government about Mr McCallum's request. They have informed us that the Royal Hong Kong Police Force (RHKPF) will supply a Certificate of Service on request from an officer who has left their employ. Such certificates include the ex-officer's name, rank, date of joining, date of leaving, reason for leaving and awards made during service. In addition, prospective employers who write requesting a reference will be supplied with a letter giving more specific details of an officer's performance. We understand that in Mr McCallum's case a letter of reference was sent from the RHKPF to the Officers and Aircrew Selection Centre, Biggin Hill, Kent in October 1986. The Hong Kong Government have told us that the first, and only, request made by Mr McCallum for a Certificate of Service was made in a letter dated 9 March 1987 which was received in Hong Kong on 17 March.

A Certificate of Service and covering letter were duly dispatched on 18 March. I hope that these have now reached Mr McCallum.

Alfred Dubs Esq MP House of Commons

You
