Wind Shear Study

The Airport Operations Committee was consulted on the best way of making use of the Wind Analyser System for the provision of a wind
a wind shear warning/advisory service at the Airport. In preparation for such a service, additional alerting devices to air traffic control personnel upon detection of wind shear by the system are being designed. To enhance the system's capability in detecting low-level wind shear along the length of the runway, a mid-runway anemometer is being installed.
Expansion of Air Cargo Handling Facilities

The boundary of the site for the proposed second Air Cargo Terminal was being worked out. Preliminary design of the building indicated a need for taking over a portion of Cargo Circuit. The design of a realigned Cargo Circuit was examined. The provision of an appropriate airside dolly/trolly access from the second terminal to the aircraft parking aprons was also being pursued.
Airfield Surface Detection Equipment

The modified equipment was delivered and tested in early August with satisfactory results. The equipment has been accepted and the installation of the display system in the Aerodrome Control Tower was in progress. The new system will be ready for operational evaluation/use by early October.
Replacement of Radar Data Processing Display and Simulator Systems

The radar data processing equipment, radar displays and associated equipment have been installed and acceptance test is underway. ready-for-service dates for the new simulator and the radar data processing and display systems are scheduled for early 1988 and mid-1988 respectively.
Replacement of Passenger Security Screening Equipment

Installation of the replacement x-ray machines and metal detectors in the existing search cubicles has been completed. Additional equipment for the new cubicles in the Stage V Terminal Building Extension will be delivered by the end of June 1988. Work on replacing the existing closed-circuit television system, intercom and alarm facilities continued and will be completed in line with the Stage V Terminal Building Extension.
Conversion of Airlines Designators
61.
The change-over of the airlines designators from 2 to 3-letter as stipulated by International Civil Aviation Organisation will be implemented on 25 October.
UHF Radio System for Airport Management
62.
The financial submission for the project was made in early September, the target ready-for-service date being late 1988.
