OPERATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND PLANNING
Major Runway and Taxiway Works

Both civil and electrical works progressed on schedule, with resurfacing work on the parallel taxiway and the runway exit taxiways completed.Construction of a 7.5 m. wide paved shoulder along the full length of both sides of the runway started on 3 August, with completion expected in February 1988. The whole project will be completed by the end of March, 1988.
Passenger Aircraft Apron Extension
48.
A submission for upgrading this project to Category A was being finalised. Construction work is expected to start in April 1988, and arrangements have been made to ensure early completion of certain critical work items.
Long Term Apron Extension
49.
A submission for upgrading this project to Category AB has been lodged. Construction work is expected to commence in January, 1989 and last 24 months.
Runway Resurfacing
50.
Following a successful feasibility trial, runway regrooving without resurfacing will start in December.
Replacement Aerobridges
51.
Design and fabrication work for the replacement of 3 pairs of aerobridges for Bays 6, 7 and 8 continued. On-site installation will commence in January 1988, with the new aerobridges to be commissioned between February and May 1988.
Disabled Aircraft Transport System
52.
Following a prequalification exercise, approval has been obtained from Finance Branch to proceed with restricted tender action for the supply of a disabled aircraft recovery transport system. Tender specification was being finalised and tenders will be invited from the shortlisted companies in November.
Disabled Aircraft Recovery Equipment

Tender specifications for the replacement of 4 Type-D 25-tonne aircraft pneumatic elevators are being finalized, and tenders will be invited in October. A financial submission for the replacement of 2 Type-G 25-tonne aircraft pneumatic elevators was lodged in September. A new mobile floodlight tower was commissioned while 2 VHF base station transceivers were delivered and put on trial in September. Investigation is in hand to assess the feasibility of providing a locally-built mobile public address system.
Equipment for Airport Fire Contingent
54.
The replacement 3-tonne lorry was put into operation in August, and the replacement hose-layer foam carrier is due to arrive in early 1988. A financial submission for а replacement fire rescue vessel was lodged in September.
