BANKING (AMENDMENT)
if, on that date, the Commissioner had given such approval under the proviso to section 87(1), and the provisions of Ordinance shall apply accordingly.
(2) Where, immediately before 1 September 1986, any period allowed under section 23B(2) of the former Deposit- taking Companies Ordinance had not expired then, on and from that date, the unexpired portion of that period shall be deemed to be a further period approved under, and for the purposes of, section 87(2)(a) as if, on that date, the Com- missioner had given such approval under section 87(2)(a), and the provisions of this Ordinance shall apply accordingly.
(3) Where, immediately before 1 September 1986, there was in force any approval under section 27(2) of the former Banking Ordinance then, on and from that date, any such approval shall be deemed to be an approval under, and for the purposes of, section 87(2)(b) as if, on that date, the Commis- sioner had given such approval under section 87(2)(b).”.
30. The Fourth Schedule to the principal Ordinance is amended in the definition of "relevant bank" in paragraph 1 by deleting "incorporated;" and substituting the following-

and includes the Exchange Fund established by the Exchange Fund Ordinance;”.
31. Section 4A of the Exchange Fund Ordinance is repealed.

An Ordinance to amend the Pneumoconiosis (Compensation) Ordinance.
[30 October 1987]
Enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice and consent
of the Legislative Council thereof.
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Pneumoconiosis (Compensa- Short title. tion) (Amendment) Ordinance 1987.
2. Section 26(1) of the principal Ordinance is amended
(a) in paragraph (b) by deleting “and”;
(b) by inserting, after paragraph (b), the following-
Amendment of section 26. (Cap. 360.)
“(ba) to conduct and finance educational, publicity, research and other programmes to prevent pneumoconiosis; and".

Section 28 of the principal Ordinance is amended by inserting, Amendment of after paragraph (e), the following-
section 28.

Section 29 of the principal Ordinance is amended by inserting, Amendment of after subsection (2), the following-
“(3) The Governor may approve or reject the programme and estimates submitted to him under subsection (1) and, in the case of a rejection, may require the Board to resubmit, within such time as he may direct, the programme or estimates, or both, modified in such manner as he may direct.

(4) The Board shall comply with any requirement under subsec- tion (3).
(5) The Board may from time to time vary the estimates subr ted under subsection (1), even after their approval by the Governor, and if it does so shall inform the Governor in writing of the details of the variation.".

The principal Ordinance is amended by adding, after section 32,
the following
"Power to write off.
32A. (1) The Board may write off the whole or any part of any debt due to the Board which it reasonably considers irrecoverable.
(2) Any write-off under subsection (1) shall take effect for accounting purposes alone and shall not extinguish any right of the Board to recover the debt which has been written off.".
