Daya Bay
I saw Li Ruohe of NCNA on 15 May.
I referred to
my previous contacts with him and his colleagues on the LegCo
Ad Hoc Group's proposal for an advisory group on Daya Bay with
participation from Hong Kong. I pointed out the apparent
contradiction between what Professor Poon reported on his
return from Peking in early May and the remarks by the General
Manager of the Joint Venture Company, Mr. Zan Yunlong on
8 May.
I said that I was frankly confused by the various
reports. I wondered if there was some misunderstanding about
the LegCo proposal which was for an advisory group to be set
up by the Chinese but with some involvement from Hong Kong.
I said that the Government was under some pressure from the
LegCo group to seek clarification. I would be grateful for
anything that Li could offer.
2.
Li recalled that he too had been confused when we
had last discussed this, and said that he was now even more
confused. He had heard nothing from Peking. He would enquire
again, using my latest enquiry as an excuse to do so.
