4. Environmental Studies

JVC has already started environmental and ecological surveys in the areas surrounding the plant. These studies include sampling of water and food supplies and biological investigations on land and in the marine environment. This data will be used in the development of the Environmental Impact Reports for the project which will be submitted and updated during the course of construction.

The environmental impact reports form part of the licensing process. Before the plant is allowed to enter operation, regulations will be set on maximum levels of effluent releases to protect the local environment. Experience from other projects shows that nuclear plants are able to operate with insignificant levels of radioactive effluents which are at a small percentage of the permitted levels.
