NCNA of 28 November reported that a four-day meeting to examine the Preliminary Safety Analysis Report (PSAR) on the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station had ended. According to an official, more than 160 Chinese and french specialists had a full and detailed discussion on issues involving the safety of the nuclear island and the conventional island.
2.
NCNA quoted Jiang Shengjie, Director of the National Nuclear Safety Administration and Chairman of the Conference as saying that the Peking conference followed an examination meeting, also sponsored by the Administration, which took place in Paris last month. Jiang said that immediately after receiving the application for constructing the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station presented by the Guangdong Nuclear Power Joint Venture Company and the Preliminary Safety Analysis Report last July, the Administration organised a group of 130 experts from relevant departments all over the country to examine the project. The safety examination of the station in Paris covered 11 subjects in the PSAR, including reactor cores, accident analysis, a nuclear steam supply system, engineering safety feature systems and the auxilliary system. According to Jiang the result of this examination would be handed over to a conference of a Nuclear Experts Committee to be held in Peking next month, according to legal procedures. Jiang added that the final decision on whether to permit the full scale construction of the station would be announced then.
3.
The report added that Jiang, 73, is a noted Chinese nuclear expert. He had told NCNA that in undertaking the project, every- thing related to the safety and quality of the station would have to be carried out under the supervision of his Administration.
