Launch a long-term campaign next month to educate the public on nuclear energy and allay misgivings about the $28.8 billion project, the South China Morning Post reported.
Monday, December 14 - Construction on the foundation raft at the Daya Bay plant was progressing smoothly after work was resumed early last month, a number of papers reported in moderate coverage, quoting the planning and contract manager of the Guangdong Nuclear Power Joint Venture Company, Peter Littlewood.
He said that the work would hopefully catch up with the schedule
by May.
Ming Pao carried an AFP report which quoted Mr Littlewood as saying that the Daya Bay plant being built might have little discrepancy with the blueprint, but it would meet the safety requiraments.
Wednesday, December 16 In response to questions filed by Ming Pao through a long distant telephone call, a spokesman for the Chinese National Nuclear Safety Administration said that the administration had not yet issued a "full-scale" construction permit for the Daya Bay project. The paper noted that such a permit was originally scheduled for issuing early this month.
In another development, the paper quoted the convenor of the Legco ad hoc group on the Daya Bay project, Wong Po-yan, as saying that he had urged Chinese officials to set up a monitoring organisation, which would comprise HK people, to monitor the Days Bay
plant.
