Banks, deposit-taking companies and repre-

sentative offices are significant employers in Hong

Kong. At the end of 1986 this sector employed some 64,000 persons in Hong Kong, an increase by the reporting institutions of over 2,000 on the previous year. The proportion of expatriate employees is only 3 per cent. Slightly more males than females

are employed

about 34,000 males and 30,000

females. 60 per cent of the work force are employed by Hong Kong and mainland China banks. (Table 7).
