may seriously interrupt internal administration. Now, under the plan which the Chief Secretary's Committee approved, two recovery centres will be established, one for the IBM-based systems and one for the ICL-based systems. The centre for the IBM-based systems will involve

the installation of a new IBM computer,

new IBM computer, the capacity of which will be similar to the one currently used by the Inland Revenue Department. This will provide adequate back-up for IBM systems which are considered critical. The second centre for the ICL-based systems will be created by splitting one of the existing ICL Super-Dual 2988 computers currently in use in the Government Data Processing Agency. By splitting this system into two, we will be able to continue to use one of them for the normal purpose and then relocate the other one to another place to serve as a disaster recovery centre. In normal times, the second system will be able

to take up less essential work.

MR CHAN: Thank you. We would like to know whether you

consider the criteria which have been established for classifying 21 critical computer systems, with a view to assessing the Government's overall requirements for disaster recovery facilities, satisfactory?
