Total expenditure on medical services in

1987-88 will be $5.2 billion: this will be 9.6% of

consolidated account expenditure as compared with 7.4%

five years ago. In addition to the total estimated

project cost of $1.2 billion for the new Government

hospital in Tuen Mun, $1 billion will be spent over the

next few years on improvements and extensions to Queen

Mary, Queen Elizabeth and Tang Shiu Kin Hospitals.

understandably so, but as with any area of expenditure

resources are not unlimited.
