PacRim 88 Speakers
The Chamber, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Hong Kong Tourist Association are local sponsors for PacRim 88, an economic symposium which will take place in Hong Kong from Sunday, 4th December to Wednesday, 7th December 1988. The event, likely to attract up to 500 businessmen from thirteen countries of the Pacific Rim, and 200 spouses who will have a separate programme, will be opened by the Governor with Lady Wilson present, during the evening of Sunday, 4th December 1988.
The Chamber is the contact sponsor and we are already collaborating with the organisers, the Western Australian Development Corporation (W.A.D.C.), a Western Australian Government organisation, in establishing the programme and obtaining a very high level of speaker.
The first PacRim, held in Perth, Western Australia in November 1986, was well organised and attended. President Reagan and other very senior political and business leaders either provided satellite messages of goodwill or participated.
I attach an early draft of the content and proposed speakers for PacRim 88. As you will see, the organisers hope that Sir Geoffrey Howe might be willing to provide a message by satellite during the first day of the symposium. "England" should read "United Kingdom".
Mr. Lee Kuan-yew, Prime Minister of Singapore, will also be invited to speak in person on the opening day.
