Illegal Immigration

Sir D Wilson said that illegal immigration into Hong

Kong from Guangdong was a continuing and increasin, worry. He was not asking for particular action but noted that both sides

would need to keep an close eye on the situation.Governor Ye

said that the problem fluctuated. There were reasons for the

influx on both sides of the border. It was important that

contact should be maintained between both authorities so that

future problems could be anticipated and solved by consultation.

Ar. angements for contact between Hong Kong and Guangdong

Both Governors agreed that, while contacts through

NCNA were generally satisfactory, ways should be explored of improving direct contact between the Political Adviser and the

Guangdong Foreign Affairs Bureau. They should get in touch by

telephone where necessary to deal quickly with important

matters.

Queen's Visit (1986)

Sir D Wilson said how much the Queen had enjoyed her

visit to Guangdong in 1986. He thanked Governor Ye for the

excellent arrangements. Governor Ye said that they were

delighted that she had been pleased with the visit.

Sir D Wilson invited Governor Ye to visit Hong Kong at

any time convenient to him in 1988.
