Contacts on Economic Planning

Sir David Wilson expressed interest in the planned development of Guangdong rovince, in the light of the recent decisions of the 13th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). He

stressed the need for the authorities in Guangdong and Hong Kong to remain in close touch on economic and infrastructure

planning. The visit by the group led by Sir David Akers-Jones

in the summer had been useful. He hoped that Guangdong

Province could send a group of senior officials to Hong Kong, in February or March 1988, for a briefing on the up to date position on Hong Kong port and airport planning and also on inner city planning (Metroplan). He suggested that this might

be followed in the late summer or early autumn of 1988 by a

visit by a high level group from Hong Kong to Guangdong.

Governor Ye agreed that Sir David Akers-Jones' visit

had been a success. There had been no major changes since on the subjects then discussed although some of the figures quoted

would change. It would be useful to continue exchanges of this sort. The time and place for the next series of meetings could be discussed between the Guangdong Foreign Affairs Bureau and
