RN HONG KONG SQN PATROL CRAFT (PC)

1. The RN Hong Kong Squadron currently operates, inter alia, 5 purpose-built Peacock class patrol craft (PC). Although purchased for the HKG, who paid 75% of the cost (and under the DCA continue to pay 75% of the running costs) the craft remain the property of MOD(N), which has sole responsibility for their operation and maintenance. This is centred on HMS TAMAR where
all base and engineering support facilities are concentrated. If the PC were withdrawn for use elsewhere, we would have to
buy out the UKG's initial contri ution and the running eest6- would become the MOD's responsibility. The PC's present tasks
are:
•
Anti-illegal immigration.
Anti-smuggling.
Maintaining British sovereignty of Hong Kong waters against intrusion by PRC vessels.

Limited troop lift in support of IS operations.

In addition, the PC participate regularly in the maritime series of FPDA STARFISH exercises and represent British interests
by conducting visits to countries on the western rim of the Pacific region.
