APPENDIX 3 TO ANNEX & TO ATTACHMENT TO CDS 7/87

HONG KONG GOVERNMENT AIR WING (HKGAW) EXPANSION PLAN

1. Garrison helicopter support for IS, anti-II and other air support tasks is currently provided by 8 Wessex and 8 Scout helicopters; roles include reconnaissance, transport, liaison and troop lift. The HKGAW will be expanded to take over all of these roles in support of HKG agencies by 1993; the present RHKAAF already has primary responsibility for S&R air operations. To match the requirement for a half-PTU company helilift, the HKG intends to re-equip the HKGAW by 1993 with 10 Dauphin N1 helicopters in place of the current 3 S&R capable Cls; three of these new helicopters (2 for delivery in 1987/88 and one in 1988/89) will also be equipped for day/night S&R duties.

2. The HKGAW will also be re-equipped with two long range twin-engined aircraft for search duties, and will expand the current fleet of Bulldogs from 2 to 4 to allow for the expanded pilot training programme. The present RHKAAF intends to move its fixed wing operation to Sek Kong by 1991 (into a 'new build' complex) and its helicopter operation to Sek Kong by 1997.
