THE HKG POLICE EXPANSION PLAN
1.

The HKG intends to expand the Police Force to meet the
future commitment of the SAR Government to ensure law and
order in Hong Kong after the handover date - 30 Jun 97.
Their aim is to ensure that the Police are capable of assuming
the British Military Garrison's responsiblities as soon as
possible before the handover date.
2. Currently, the role of the British Garrison is confined
primarily to assisting the Police in the prevention of illegal
immigration and to provision of effective military reinforcement for the Police in any developing IS threat situation. The
Police plan to assume full responsibility for both these tasks, and all the Garrison's remaining specialist tasks, by 1994.
