Rehousing and Compensation Arrangements

3.

The rehousing arrangements will be as for a redevelopment clearance; although the site is not to be "redeveloped", this will be a clearance of multi-storey buildings in an urban area, quite unlike a squatter clearance. Detailed provisions for rehousing and compensation can only be decided when a detailed survey has been carried out. They will also depend on the recommendations of the Special Committee of the Housing Authority (see paragraph 5 below). But the basic provisions may be summarised as follows:

(a)

(b)

All genuine residents, who have lived in the Walled City for a reasonable length of time (say, three months, but this will be for the Special Committee to decide), will be eligible for public

Unit housing not allocations. The small minority who have lived there for a shorter time will be eligible for temporary housing. Preferences of the residents, regarding location and other requirements, will be taken into account.

Tenants of domestic premises will be offered public rental housing or priority in buying Home Ownership Scheme flats.
