Eligible occupiers will be reimbursed for expenses reasonably incur- red as a consequence of the clearance of the Walled City. Such ex- penses include costs of removal of furniture, plant and machinery to alternative premises, legal costs and stamp duty for acquiring replacement premises.
Claims for such reimbursement must be accompanied by documen- tary evidence of payment. You are also expected to prove that the claim is reasonable.
In the majority of cases, which are simple and straightforward, you will be offered a payment based on standard rates. You can accept this in substitution of more detailed claims. These are not uniform rates but vary to take into account such factors as the type of occupa- tion (i.e. domestic, commercial or workshop, etc), location of the premises, etc.
Claims for business loss resulting from the clearance should be fully substantiated. Where a payment in excess of the standard rates is made, you will be eligible for reimbursement of reasonable surveyors', valuers' or accountants' fees incurred in assisting you with your claim.
NOTICE
Certain categories of business will not attract any com- pensation for business loss, or disturbance allowance. Examples of these are vice establishments, opium divans and any others as may be decided by the Special Committee.
