SECRETARY OF STATES VISIT TO WASHINGTON AND CHICAGO: 9/10 APRIL
1. The Secretary of State will visit the US on 9/10 April. On the 9th, he will have separate discussions with Secretary Shultz, and with NSC adviser Carlucci. On the 10th he will deliver a speech on Transatlantic relations at the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations. The programme is set out in Washington telno 608, attached.
2. As the visit falls between the Secretary of State's visit to Moscow with the Prime Minister on 28 March 1 April, and Shultz's own visit there on 13 16 April, much of the discussion will inevitably focus on East/West relations, prospects for a summit and arms control. But the Secretary of State will also wish to discuss Southern Africa; Afghanistan; Arab-Israel Conference; EC/US
