kea, durid,
I have written separately to a large number of private sector people in Hong Kong who were kind enough to see me during my visit earlier this month. I would also like to thank you formally for the tremendous guidance and help that you and members of the Hong Kong Government provided throughout. On my first visit abroad I had no real yardstick by which to make comparisons. But by any standard the arrangements for my visit, and the briefings I received during it, were of the highest quality. I really am very grateful indeed.
As you know, press comment on the visit here in Britain has tended to reflect the English-language Hong Kong press rather than the more balanced tone of the Chinese-language press. But I hope that nobody on the Information side in Hong Kong will feel concerned that the assistance that they provided was in any way inadequate. I have absolutely no complaint; and it is typically efficient that I have now received a comprehensive presentation and summary of the Hong Kong newspaper reporting.
Once again, very many thanks. I look forward to seeing you in London soon, and again in Hong Kong on a future visit.
